New photographic studio

We’ve long hankered after a space where we could take industry-standard photographs of our artefacts. Up until now we’ve simply used the carpet in the reading room to take a quick snap!

So, we’re delighted now to be able to show off our new photographic studio! Through the efforts of our volunteer Stan, an end of the wood room has been cleared to make the studio as in the photos. We needed to fit a roll of plain paper to make the backdrop, and Richard dug out the studio lights he hadn’t used for twenty-odd years. We also have a USB-powered turntable that we can use to film three-dimensional artefacts – this means we just put up a video clip of the artefact doing one complete rotation, rather than multiple pictures of the front, back and sides.

To give you an idea of what we photograph, all of our recent blogs are accompanied by images – take a look at https://www.richardrobertsarchive.org.uk/stockport-advertising-archive-blog

We have some volunteers interested in helping us with our photography and we now have proper facilities to offer them. If you’d like to be part of our volunteering team, contact us at volunteering@richardrobertsarchive.org.uk.
